FLUIDSYNTH SOUNDFONT FOR VLC INSTALL
If I type fluidsynth into a terminal, it produces the message that it is not currently installed and to install it I should use "# apt-get install fluidsynth". Fluidsynth is not installed there either. I also installed the vlc-plugin-fluidsynth on my laptop and that now plays midi files. I think that was installed when I downloaded the vlc-plugin-fluidsynth. The only entry in that category is "fluid-soundfont-gm 3.1-5". I just checked in synaptic on my desktop - vlc-plugin-fluidsynth is not listed. Somehow, everything sounds perfect using that soundfont with fluidsynth over audacious. However, there is some annoying noise together with the instruments when playing through the commandline. Using any other soundfont, such as fluidsunth's GM etc. Okay, it's the soundfont!
